Notes

  • Choose starchy potatoes like Russets or Yukon Golds for the best texture.
  • Soak the cut potatoes in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  • Double-fry the potatoes for a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. Fry them at a lower temperature first, then increase the temperature for the second fry.
  • Maintain the frying oil temperature at around 325°F/160°C for the first fry and 375°F/190°C for the second fry.
  • Fry the potatoes in small batches to prevent overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
  • Use oils with high smoke points like peanut oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil for frying.
  • Drain the fried potatoes on a wire rack or paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Season the fries with salt or other desired seasonings while they are still hot.
  • Serve the French fries immediately for the best flavor and texture.
  • Feel free to experiment with different seasonings and dipping sauces to enhance the taste.
  • If baking the fries, preheat the oven to around 425°F/220°C and flip them halfway through baking for even crispiness.
  • Frozen fries can be stored in the freezer for up to three months and reheated in the oven.
